The Bonsai Bus will be hosting an Open Day and Workshop. It is aimed at beginners and includes a range of activities throughout the day, as well as a chance to get some new stock trees for you to develop for Bonsai.

9:30 to 11:30 - Bonsai Clinic

The day starts off with a Bonsai Clinic. Come in with your Bonsai tree for some advice as to its health, where it is in development and what steps can be taken next. Please be aware time will be limited depending on numbers of people waiting. Preference will be given to those that register their interest on the ticketing page below and a small donation is appreciated for the time given to each person. No work will be undertaken during this time.

11:30 to 1:00 - Bonsai Basics Talk

This free talk will cover what is a Bonsai, how to take care of one and the basics of Design. It will give you the confidence to start your journey with Bonsai and the understanding to enable you to have success. We will also cover how a tree functions and how that relates to both its care and its design. Bonsai are not special trees, they are just like their bigger cousins so we are responsible to give them all they need. Please register your interest with your level of experience in the link below to help me cater to the audience attending.

1:00 to 3:30 - Beginners Workshop

The workshop is sold out. Subscribe below to be notified of upcoming workshops. You can still come along to the Bonsai Clinic and Talk.

This workshop is aimed at beginners. We will discuss each tree in the workshop as a group, then undertake the work to start your tree on its Bonsai Journey. You can bring a tree you already own, or purchase one to work on during the workshop. Cost is $95 plus $3.50 booking fee. It will include a $30 voucher to put towards a stock tree and or a pot. Potting materials and wire are included in the fee, as well as access to tools required to do the work.

We will go through the techniques and undertake the work for each part of the process covering the following:

    – Assess the health of your tree

    – Clean up tree ready for work

    – Selecting a front

    – Selection of branches to work with and how to prune

    – Wiring the structure of the tree

    – Preparing a pot for repotting

    – Repotting and finishing off

If you bring a tree, or select one, that is not ready for any of the work listed above there will be other trees available to work on so you can still learn and practice the skills required and gain the experience to confidently work on your trees in the future. Spaces are limited in order to give each participant the right amount of time. Observers are not permitted so that attention can be given to the participants.

Please note tickets will be live by no later than Wednesday 6th November. Please check back then.
